A young woman came to us last week in hopes that we would be able to help prevent her from having a Cesarean section. Her brother, a Chiropractor who practices out of state, suggested she come to us for Webster Technique. (specific chiropractic adjustments that work with the pelvis and surrounding ligaments to align the body and allow the baby to move into a vertex ("head-down") position naturally.) At her 36 week prenatal visit, the woman's doctor informed her that her baby was breech and immediately followed with the question, "when would you like to schedule your C-section?” Not only did she not want a C-section, but she had always planned to have natural childbirth with as little intervention as possible. Her doctor did not offer any alternatives, so she researched them on her own and her brother helped her to find us. After two adjustments, the baby turned. She had a follow-up ultrasound with her doctor which confirmed that her baby was in proper position. She was delighted, as were we, that she was going to have the birth experience that she envisioned.
I would love to see more OB/GYNs refer their patients to Chiropractors. Not only for those presenting with breech babies, but in conjunction with their prenatal care. The benefits of chiropractic care during pregnancy include: maintaining a healthier pregnancy, controlling symptoms of nausea, reducing time of labor and delivery, relieving back/neck/joint pain, and preventing a possible cesarean section.) I can say from personal experience that regular adjustments have helped me to have really easy pregnancies. When I was pregnant with Gage, I was still working out 10 days past my due date and feeling fabulous.
